Lightlife's Smoky Tempeh Strips and Tempehtations

Tempeh 'BLT'

I'm a late-comer to liking tempeh. I've been a vegan for almost 4 years now, and I just decided I liked it two weeks ago. I tried some once at a vegan restaurant several years ago and I really didn't like it. It kinda made a semi-lasting impression as "BAD". But, I gave it another 'go' anyway. And I'm glad I did.

The products that have convinced me tempeh is good are the ones I am reviewing today; Lightlife's Organic Smoky Tempeh Strips, Lightlife's Tempehtations Zesty Lemon, and Lightlife's Tempehtations GingerTeriyaki.

I haven't done much with the Tempehtations yet, except heat them up in a pan and eat them as is. But I fully intend to add them to stir fries and rice dishes. I think it says something that I can eat them on their own and love them. That means adding them to dishes will completely rock.

But, the Smoky Tempeh Strips are another matter altogether. So far, I love them as the 'B' in BLT sammies. So delish. The photo at the top is my Tempeh 'BLT' from earlier. I promise there are tomatoes and another slice of bread under those greens. There's also some Vegenaise, homemade guacamole, and dijon mustard on that thar sammie. Tasty.

Without further ado, the rankings for all three...
Ranking: ****

***** awesome! Highly recommended.
**** hey, this is pretty dang good.
*** not bad at all.
** eh.
* bad. Keep looking for alternatives.

[Lightlife's Tempeh products can be found at Sprouts and Whole Foods, and possibly Trader Joes.]
