We Can't Say It's Cheese...
Vegan cheese made from...oatmeal? Ok, I'll bite. And I did!
I guess I've been on a vegan cheese kick lately, because when I was at Whole Foods and spotted the new WayFare Foods' We Can't Say It's Cheese in Cheddar Style Dip I nabbed it. I was quite surprised to read that it was made from oatmeal. Cause really, OATMEAL?? That is really thinking outside of the box, my friends. With this foray into cheese spready dip, I chose Back to Nature's Poppy Thyme Crackers.
And I was impressed. The uncheese Cheddar Style Dip was pretty tasty. I was going to try it in a macaroni dish like some other reviewers, but not enough of the dip survived long enough to be eaten as anything but little crackers and uncheese sandwiches.
Cheese purists might not be satisfied, as the spread is more in the realm of cheapie cheeses, but those of us with flexible taste buds will be. Also, some reviewers online had problems with several of the flavors being a little salty when used as a dip, I did not with the Cheddar Style Dip and I'm not a salt person. The same reviewers said the saltiness went away when the uncheese was heated up and put into pasta or something. So if you try it with crackers and aren't happy with it, try making some macaroni and uncheese.
We Can't Say It's Cheese also comes in Cheddar-Style Spread, Hickory-Smoked Cheddar-Style Spread, and Mexi Cheddar-Style Dip.
Back to Nature has several varieties of tasty crackers. I also love their Stoneground Wheats.

We just tried that last week and I did not like it on first bite but tried it again a day or so later and thought it tasted much better.
Yeah? I'm not surprised. :)
