Sheese and Crackers

I recently tried Sheese Garlic and Herb Creamy, a vegan cheese spread. I paired it with Back to Nature's Sunflower Basil Crackers for a delicious snack of 'Sheese and Crackers'.

Sheese Garlic and Herb Creamy Spread reminds me of a smoother version of Alouette's Garlic and Herb [Cow] Cheese. My family always enjoyed Alouette and Wheat Thins as a snack on road trips. My mom used to make little cracker sandwiches for my dad as he drove. I am pleased there is a vegan option for continuing the tasty tradition.

I was never really a cheese person, nor a cream cheese person (unless we're talking cream cheese frosting!) This is what I liked: American or mild cheddar cheese for grilled cheese sammies and quesadillas, mozzarella for pizza, Alouette Garlic and Herb Cheese Spread for crackers, and white cheddar, particularly Kaukana White Cheddar Spread for crackers. That's pretty much all I ever bought, though I ate other cheeses occasionally. I actually prefer the taste of non-dairy cheeses. The same with yogurts, I like the non-dairy ones better.

The cheddar and mozzarella versions of Daiya work perfectly for grilled cheese, quesadillas, and pizza. And now I have found a replacement for the Alouette. I'm definitely still on the look-out for a vegan white cheddar cheese spread...so, if you hear of anything, let me know! In the meantime, I've got to track down some Cheezly White Cheddar and give that a go.

So, I really liked both the Sheese and the Sunflower Basil crackers. They are good together, and I am sure they would be yummy paired with other foods too.

Creamy Sheese comes in several additional flavors: Cheddar Style, Chives, Mexican Style, and Original.

There are also several flavors of 'hard' Sheese: Blue Style, Cheddar Style with Chives, Cheshire Style, Edam Style, Gouda Style, Medium Cheddar Style, Mozzarella Style, Smoked Cheddar Style, and Strong Cheddar Style. Whew, that's a lot!

Back to Nature has several varieties of tasty crackers. I especially love their Crispy Wheats, which are a healthier version of Wheat Thins.

[Sheese cannot be found in Arizona yet, unfortunately. Whole Foods grocers in other states carry it, so if enough of us ask for it here, our local branches should be willing to start selling it too. In the meantime, you can find it online at Vegan Essentials, Pangea, Cosmo's Vegan Shoppe, and Food Fight Vegan Grocery.]

[Back to Nature can be found at Whole Foods, Sprouts Fry's Marketplace, and occasionally Target.]

Ah, but our parents never bought the good cheese. So you never know, you could have loved cheese.

Maybe. But I think I had bits of it here and there, and at restaurants to know that even those didn't make me like cheeses.
